ASSIGNMENT 4

ASSIGNMENT 4, TASK 1

The importance of personal branding

Unique, visually captivating personal branding is incredibly important in creating a product, service, business or simply a brand that modern consumers can identify with.
There are five key points you should focus on when creating your own personal brand, these are :
- Set personal branding goals
- Audit your personal brand
- Establish a personal branding strategy
- Analyze your strategy
- Become an influencer

How to use social media for personal branding

Social media is an extremely powerful tool in marketing a brand to consumers and if done correctly, can be one of the keys to the success of your personal brand.
Some ways in which people can use social media in order to gain more exposure of their personal brand are, e.g for an artist, include photo campaigns of people wearing product with the art visible on the garment in the photo. Or for a furniture designer, include photos of your furniture set up in your clients homes. Plus if your brand is tagged or hashtagged by a client with a lot of followers, you’ll get even more exposure.

Good examples of using social media for personal branding

Below are some examples where Brands have used social media for marketing purposes :

Above is an Instagram post from local Melbourne furniture designer Vince Conboy (Cenzo Design). The post is advertising some of the stools he’s recently produced.
This is an effective post & great advertising for Vince’s personal brand as his craftsmanship is clearly beautiful & represented very well in this post, where the photographer ( @peterryle ) has created a great contrast between the stools & the concrete studio wall. Vince has also effectively used twenty hashtags in this post which increases the chances of consumers browsing his page on Instagram, which in turn could result in sales for him.

Above is an Instagram post from Andy Murphy (Salvador Gnarly, artist) for a t-shirt design he drew for Yellowbird cafe in Melbourne. This is a very effective post & a smart use of personal branding. Firstly because Andy is advertising his own personal brand & art through producing artwork for a well liked & respected cafe. Secondly because the drawing itself is taken from the logo of a popular hard rock group named Motorhead, Andy has just added the burger & beer can.Thirdly because the text reads Yellowbird Melbourne in the same font used by Motorhead on their album covers. People identify with this post & know Andy as an influential artist in the art / skateboarding scenes in Melbourne. Ultimately he is advertising his own artwork, while at the same time advertising his clients business, in my opinion a very smart use of social media & personal branding.
